For most routine tests, no. You can come in during collection hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM) with your request form. If you need to discuss symptoms or results with a doctor, please book a consultation.
Only some tests require fasting, usually for 8 to 12 hours. Your doctor or reception will tell you when your test is requested. If unsure, call (02) 4996 4003 before coming in. Water is fine, and continue regular medication unless advised otherwise.
Most pathology tests requested by your GP and referred under Medicare are bulk billed by the pathology provider, meaning no out-of-pocket cost. Some specific tests are not covered by Medicare and may attract a fee - your doctor or the collector will let you know if this applies.
Your results are sent directly to you once the laboratory has processed your samples. Your doctor also receives a copy and will follow up with you if any result needs attention. If you would like to discuss your results, you can book a follow-up appointment at any time.
Bring your pathology request form from your doctor, your Medicare card, and any concession or healthcare card you hold.
General practice at its best is a conversation, not a checklist. Our doctors start every visit with a proper look at what is going on for you, ask questions rather than assume, and then work with you on a plan you actually understand.
Where a condition needs ongoing attention, we coordinate the
follow-up. Where a specialist opinion is needed, we refer to people we know and trust. Where reliable information will help you at home, we point you to it. The aim is simple: you leave knowing what is happening with your health and what comes next.

Cost is one of the biggest reasons people put off seeing a doctor. That's why standard and long GP consultations at Clarence Town Healthcare are now bulk billed for patients with a valid Medicare card. Come in when you need to, not when the bill feels bearable.
